PARENTAL BULLETIN – 19 JULY 2019

19 July 2019

With the hot weather & approaching summer please take note of this RLSS warning: The RLSS has appealed for people to take note of simple safety messages to avoid a repeat of last summer’s tragedies when many people lost their lives cooling off in unlifeguarded open water, not suitable for swimming.

Around 400 people needlessly drown in the UK every year and thousands more suffer injury, some life changing, through near-drowning experiences. Putting this into context, one person dies every 20 hours in the UK and drowning is the third highest cause of accidental death of children in the UK. So, with temperatures high, it is important people make the most of the weather and enjoy the water but do so safely at sites designated for swimming.

Please also see attached poster outlining the four actions that could save your life.

RETURN TO SCHOOL WEDNESDAY 4TH SEPTEMBER

There is a staggered start to the school day to accommodate our new students in Year 9. Therefore, Year 9, 12 & 13 are to be in school by 8.45am. Year 10 & 11 at 10.05am.

CHANGE OF SCHOOL UNIFORM POLICY

As of September 2019 all girls, if wearing skirts, must wear black opaque tights. Please ensure that all students are in full uniform, including formal black shoes, for the first day back.  This is particularly so for the school photographs which take place on the first Friday back (6th September). Full school uniform policy can be found on our website.

“TAKE YOUR CHILD TO WORK DAY”

Thank you to all the parents who sorted out their child's Take Your Child to Work Day event. It was a great success as a pilot scheme and will hopefully happen again next year.

YEAR 9 POETRY ANTHOLOGY

To all parents of Year 9 students who ordered a poetry anthology as part of the Year 9 poetry competition run by the Young Writers charity, That delivery has only arrived in school today (Thursday 18th July 2019). Efforts will be made to get those deliveries to students before the summer break but if this is not possible then please note that your orders will be given to the students first week back in September.
