WATER SAFETY WORKSHOP

26 June 2015

On Wednesday 24th June, the Royal Life Saving Society ran a Water Safety Workshop to all of our Year 9 students. Following the tragic death of Richard Fellows last March in a drowning accident, it is essential that we give our students an awareness of the risks surrounding water. This was an important opportunity for our students to take part in a national programme, which will aid their awareness of the hazards surrounding water and give them a life-skill of what to do in an emergency situation.

The key questions of the session:

· Who is most at risk?

· Why are they at risk?

· Where do people drown?

· Why is open water so dangerous?

· What they need to do if they find themselves or somebody else in the water.

The session explored basic survival and land based rescue techniques.

Many thanks to the members of the RLSS; Lee, Scarlett and Jade, for taking the time for our students and organising a fun and informative day. We would also like to thank all the students for their participation and staff for making this a very valuable experience.
