Trinity High School

26 June 2015

On Tuesday 30th June, Trinity High School will be holding an Athletics Championship at the Abbey Stadium. The event will be an inter house competition and is sure to be an exciting and challenging day for all students.

We are privileged to have an Olympic swimmer attending the event to inspire our students. Joe Roebuck has been one of the most consistent performers in British Championship history, amassing an impressive 21 medals - including eight gold - since 2005.  He made his senior debut at the 2006 European Championships but had to wait until 2009 for his next major long course championship after narrowly missing out on making the 2008 Olympic team.

The 2010 season was a fruitful one for Roebuck as he won 200m Individual Medley bronze at the European Championships before scooping two silvers (200m and 400m Individual Medley) for England at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi. After gaining more experience at the 2011 World Championships and picking up his first European Short Course medal with 200m Butterfly bronze, he emphatically qualified for London 2012, winning the 200m Butterfly and 200m Individual Medley as well as taking silver in the 400m Individual Medley.

He competed in all three events on his Olympic debut later in the season, finishing with an 11th place in the 200m Individual Medley.  After narrowly missing out on the 2013 World Championship team, Roebuck bounced back in 2014, qualifying for and competing at his second Commonwealth Games for England, finishing sixth in the 200m Individual Medley.

Joe will be speaking to our students throughout the event explaining what can be achieved through dedication, commitment and hard work. Joe will also be presenting certificates and medals in the afternoon awards assembly.

Students must arrive at school promptly in full THS PE kit and line up in tutor groups on their fire drill numbers.

Students will not be allowed inside the Abbey Stadium so they must bring plenty of water and in the event of warm weather sunscreen.

Students will return to school in time for lunch.
