Trinity High School

ALCOA STEM PROJECT

10 July 2015

Last week three Year 9 students, Nathalie, Wiktoria & Lee, prepared to compete against students from South Bromsgrove, Pershore and Holly Lodge, Smethwick, in the final stage of a year long project. All students in Year 9 had experimented with solar panels in science and then designed and made a solar powered product in Design & Technology. A gruelling selection process followed, including presenting to a panel of Trinity judges, to find the three competitors that went forward to the inter- school final.

This time all five judges were from industry, further education or senior teachers from other schools. Each student had to present their product and face challenging questions from the judging panel. All the entries were of a very high standard and showed great initiative and the students supported each other well as they waited their turn to be “grilled”. One student from Holly Lodge School commented that she wished she could come to Trinity because the school and its students were so nice.

After a long wait whilst the judges made their difficult decisions, Lee received £100 for his plane. The overall winner with her solar powered hair straighteners for glampers was Wiktoria and she received £250.

We would like to thank Alcoa for sponsoring the event and the prizes.
